MF ceilings vs grid tile ceilings: which specification wins on your project?
Published 15 Apr 2026
Clients often ask whether to specify an MF plasterboard ceiling or a modular 600×600 grid. The answer depends on budget, aesthetics, access requirements, and how services are routed above the ceiling line.
Grid systems are faster to install, easier to maintain, and more economical for large open areas. Individual tiles can be lifted for access to valves, sensors, and cable runs. Acoustic performance is predictable when you select the right tile specification.
MF systems suit premium spaces — receptions, boardrooms, hotels — where you want continuous planes, shadow gaps, curves, or bulkheads. They also work well when lighting is fully recessed and you do not want visible grid lines.
Many successful fit-outs combine both: grid ceilings to open plan areas and MF features to circulation zones. Erimus Interiors can survey your floorplate and recommend a value-engineered mix rather than a one-size-fits-all specification.
